MOOD AND THE MAGNOLIA

Regent House is the remarkable transformation of a cramped and dated period house into a high-functioning family home for a young couple and their two boys. The concept strategy for the extension of this home was two-pronged - to preserve as many of the original period features as possible and to create a contemporary extension that would bring in the great outdoors. The brief called for a new open plan kitchen, a living and dining area, a new family bathroom and an additional (4th) bedroom with a WIR and ensuite.

Our clients were committed to creating a house with personality, one that would be robust enough to sustain the rough ’n tumble of their two young boys with a warm and playful aesthetic. This is where our design expertise comes in! The primary gathering space - the moody kitchen with its dark navy, walnut joinery and richly veined marble benchtops - is perfectly offset by bursts of colour in the bedrooms and contrasting terrazzo floors and tessellated tiles in the bathrooms.

Construction is often not a linear process and whilst we are methodical about our process, many factors can disrupt even the most pragmatic schedule. On this project, we faced and weathered many challenges including working through the second major lockdown in Melbourne in 2020 as well as multiple environmental catastrophes at the time which presented significant lead times and logistical challenges. We were able to overcome them all, giving our clients the gift of bringing able to enjoy their dream home throughout the pandemic.
