BLAIRGOWRIE HOUSE

THE LOCAL PROJECT

Dan and Dani Reilly of design and construction practice Manna Made were drawn to Blairgowrie’s easy tempo and the unruly beauty of its back beaches. The pair – who purchased an undeveloped site with the intention of building a weekend retreat – pivoted halfway through construction and relocated to the Mornington Peninsula permanently. The home they have designed and built for themselves is both a fitting reflection of the coastal locale and of the couple’s informed and thoughtful design sensibilities.

BLAIRGOWRIE HOUSE

THE DESIGN FILES

Dan and Dani’s home in Blairgowrie is the culmination of five years’ work, designed in collaboration with Bellhaus Design Office, to overcome numerous challenges. Simple, clean lines are enhanced through contrasting textures and tactile materiality to form a calming sanctuary away from the couple’s busy work life in Melbourne.

BLAIRGOWRIE HOUSE

DESIGN ANTHOLOGY

South of Melbourne in Mornington Peninsula, Blairgowrie House coexists with its coastal surroundings, its clean lines sitting in harmony with the landscape. The project is the result of five years of planning and construction by its designers and owners — the founders of end-to-end design and construction firm MANNA MADE — in collaboration with local building designers Bellhaus Design Office.

GREY RESIDENCE

THE LOCAL PROJECT

Time is not always kind to old buildings. While magnificent, heritage homes eventually require work to achieve, quite simply, a better quality of life. One would think this magnificent boom-style Victorian terrace in St Kilda would be defiant – resistant, even – in the face of change. However, Manna Made’s, in collaboration with Bellhaus Design Office, comprehensive approach to demolition, design and construction sees Grey Residence embrace change with vigour.

DONCASTER HOUSE

THE LOCAL PROJECT

The design brief for their architect was slightly different for each client. Brad (husband) wanted to create a home with ‘design reserve’ that will not date, something those with a keen eye for form and function would appreciate because they know what they are looking at. Jenny (wife) wanted a complete overhaul… A full redesign ensuring the home was a pleasure to come home to/live in. It needed to be easy to look after and maintain. All areas function effortlessly and overall to reflect “quiet glamour”.
